The Rossetti Ensemble was created in 2018 between four long-standing friends and collaborators, pianist John Lenehan, violinist Sara Trickey, violist Sarah-Jane Bradley and cellist Tim Lowe. In addition to piano quartet repertoire the group works with other instrumentalists and singers to produce imaginative and varied programmes. This concert balances two iconic works of the chamber repertoire from Frank Bridge and Brahms, with a second half of shorter, more reflective works by more recent composers, each for cello, viola and violin with piano accompaniment. The ensemble then reforms for a finale from Southwold-based composer Nathan Williamson – a world-premiere of his latest work, Crystal, written during the pandemic, which ‘expresses the awful disparity of the last year: so much death, sickness and loneliness, but such vibrant screams of nature once we humans were out of the way…’
